Criminal Law in the Netherlands. You are in pre-trial detention and want to request a suspension. Discuss with your lawyer what reasons are given for detention and how an executable plan can fit in with this. Describe where you can live, how you can be reached and what daily activities or treatment is available. Make it clear who provides support and which agreements have already been confirmed. Work, children, health and housing can be important personal interests. Collect appropriate documents. Explain with your lawyer how these interests relate to the request. Discuss possible conditions and check whether you can implement them. Consider appointments, travel distances and contact restrictions. A well-intentioned promise does not help if implementation is not feasible. Suspension interrupts pre-trial detention under conditions. This does not end the criminal case. Read the decision carefully and ask what violation of a condition could mean. Are you no longer able to fulfill a condition? Report it immediately to your lawyer and the supervisor involved. A request for change does not automatically give permission to deviate. Read the full explanation on the Criminal Law in the Netherlands website.
