You cannot pay a criminal fine at once. First identify the letter, reference and type of decision. A criminal fine, traffic penalty, compensation order and confiscation order do not automatically share the same rules.
Keep the original notice and verify official CJIB contact details. Note the payment date and any previous correspondence. Do not rely on an unofficial payment message or an incomplete screenshot.
Make an overview of income, essential expenses and other payment obligations. Ask which instalment arrangement may be available. A proposal should fit what you can actually pay.
Ask through the official CJIB route about instalments or other available help. If someone manages your finances or debts, contact that person promptly so the application can be coordinated.
Submitting a request or choosing an amount yourself does not guarantee an arrangement. Read the written confirmation and its conditions. Ask what applies while you are waiting for a response.
A payment arrangement concerns execution of the decision. It is not an objection or appeal against it. If you dispute the underlying decision, ask promptly about the correct separate remedy and its deadline.
