Criminal Law in the Netherlands.

You will receive a contact ban or location ban in a criminal case. Ask which decision it comes from and read which people, places and actions it includes. The exact text is important.

Check whether the ban includes messaging, social media or contact through others. Don't assume there is an exception yourself. Discuss any doubts with your lawyer before acting.

A message or invitation from the protected person does not automatically lift a formal ban. Don't respond based on that permission alone. Ask for advice about the specific situation.

Make specific why an agreement is difficult to implement. Discuss a permitted route for essential items such as children or property. Don't use practical necessity as a self-invented exception.

Have it assessed whether clarification or change is possible. Until a decision is made otherwise, a submitted request does not automatically give permission to deviate. Save the valid decision.

Save relevant messages without violating the ban. Report any uncertainties or incidents immediately to your lawyer and discuss what response is required. Ask for clear, verifiable instructions.
